Some of my customer when researching an epoxy floors wonder why they need to spend the extra money on the base. My usual answer is that the JetRock base is designed to provide a water tight, pest proof barrier from the harsh environment of a kitchen to adjacent rooms. Now that may answer your question, but what if your not using JetRock in your kitchen. In that case the base may not seem like an important part of your epoxy floor installation, until you need it. Many of my customers like the base in other rooms because it provides them an added layer of security and piece of mind. The base also helps immensely with destruction of your pest problems. The base can be a also be a help in cleaning the floor. If you wish to learn about the right way to clean an epoxy floor Click Here.
Installation of JetRock’s base
JetRock’s research and development team designed this particular epoxy to be thicker than the floor kits. The thickness allows for the trowel man to apply the product up the wall to the desired height. The base will cure just as hard as the floor and just like the floor be completely water tight. The base is slicked to give it a uniformed look and mintage the trowel marks made while installing the product. This is very important for the overall look of the finished product. As well as the functionality of the base in the finished installation.
Benefits of base
The benefits of the base in a project can different for each customer. Some customers will care more about leaking into adjacent areas a other customers. Some customers will care more about aesthetics and like the clean floor look. We get both kinds of customers here at Feature Flooring so we make sure we asses that on site. Usually if the base is already on the wall we will be installing base to tie the entire floor and wall together. This creates that water tight pan effect eliminating leaks into adjacent rooms. Here are some of the additional benefits:
- Heat and chemical resistance on the walls.
- Added protection against carts/ wheelchairs
- Impenetrable barrier for pests
- Makes it easier to clean the JetRock floor
- Seamless interrogation with many wall systems
In closing, the base option for epoxy floor while important in certain areas can be removed to fit within your budget. If you do have the budget I would highly recommend you going with the base to ensure a long lasting epoxy floor.
